Hiring: Wall Street site lead, social media/audience development manager

Two new positions open at the NYO:

Wall Street site lead: after some wheedling on my part, I got the greenlight to do a Wall Street site that will cover Wall Street institutionally (as opposed to say, making stock recommendations or tracking minute market movements). The site lead would top edit posts, write 4 posts a day (minimum) themselves and contribute features once or twice a month to the paper. The candidate should have some experience with business reporting and ideally, a basic understanding of corporate finance. (Financial statements shouldn’t scare you.) I’m already scouting for this one, but am putting it out there in case I’m missing anyone who should be on my radar and is interested. Send a cover letter, resume and a few ideas that you think would be good Observer-y Wall Street stories.

Social media/audience development manager: we’re also looking for someone to find and develop strategic content partnerships, help professionalize and grow the Observer’s social media initiatives and do traffic analysis regularly for the various sites we manage. This person should already live and breathe social media—and enjoy it, because you’ll be completely immersed. And you should have the social media presence to prove it. (Please send links to your Twitter/FB/Tumblr in the cover letter.)  2-5 years of experience preferred.

Send applications with resume and cover letter in the body to espiers AT observer.com. No attachments or you’ll end up in my spam filter.

    Looking for freelance party reporters

I’m looking to expand social coverage a bit at the Observer, and want to start by trying out new freelance writers.

I don’t care if you have experience doing party coverage, but I need the reports to be smart and funny. (And if you’re a funny writer generally, I may have some other assignments as well.)

So if you’re interested, send me a resume and a write-up of an event (any event; I don’t care) that captures the scene, what people are talking about, who’s there, what’s happening, etc.  I don’t care that much about whether you adhere to the traditional party-reporting formula; I’m mostly looking for wit and style.

You can email me at espiers AT gmail.

    Hiring (Again!): Commercial Observer editor-in-chief

Commercial Observer editor-in-chief and microbrew aficionado Tom Acitelli is leaving New York for Boston (where Mrs. Acitelli just got a new job and there’s an incredibly annoying baseball team**) in a few weeks. So I’m looking for someone to fill his position.

CO is a weekly real estate trade publication. (You’re probably already familiar with it if you cover real estate now; if you don’t, you probably aren’t.) It has a web presence that, at the moment, mostly duplicates the print edition, but we’re looking to expand it with daily/hourly/as-it-happens breaking news.

It’s a great opportunity for someone who wants to be a little entrepreneurial and really build the thing out. It already has a strong industry following and with a few more resources (which we have), could be a lot more comprehensive than it is right now. We’re seeing a lot of demand for news on certain beats, like leasing and financing, and are looking to hire additional staffers there anyway.

If you’re interested or know someone who’d be good for it, email me at espiers AT observer dot com, subject line: CO editor in chief.

    ** Lockhart-baiting.

More hiring! Professional women’s site for b5media

I’m already scouting pretty heavily for this one, but am always open to good candidates coming over the transom.

I’m looking for an editor-in-chief for a site targeting professional women that covers management issues, biz travel, work culture, fashion, etc. with a dose of wit and provocation. As with all the b5 sites, the content is presented in a bloggy fashion, but includes some long form pieces and a lot of original content. The editor will be responsible for generating a certain amount of content as well as top editing the site, assigning articles to freelancers and managing other editorial staffers. The position is full time and based in New York. Compensation DOE.

If interested, send a cover letter and résumé pasted into the body of the email to espiers AT gmail.com. No attachments, please.

    More Hiring!

I’m looking for an additional blogger for BlissTree.com. The candidate will be writing what I tend to call “filler posts”—aggregation posts, links to third party stories with commentary, quicklinks, etc.  Original content is welcome, of course, but this particular person’s primary role would be to keep up with the news cycle and to post quickly and often. So if you’re fast and can do high-volume posting, you’re probably a good candidate. The position is full-time with benefits and you must be in New York. If you’re interested email me at ESPIERS at GMAIL with a resume and cover letter.
