Following this rather extensive discussion re: Moby’s snobbery or lack thereof, I feel obligated to disclose that I do not own a television, since that seems to be the defining characteristic of The New Pretentiousness.
This is not, however, because I do not want a television. It’s mostly because my productivity has already been significantly diminished by 30 Rock and various reality shows on Hulu and every episode of Law & Order SVU on Netflix streaming. I fear that an actual TV with even more juicy television viewing options will turn me into a vegetable. Who generates no income.
But I’m starting to rethink this, because the reality is that I watch plenty of television—just on my computer. So I’m basically consuming just as much TV entertainment, while simultaneously contributing to the deterioration of my already lamentable vision thanks to viewing said TV entertainment on a teeny tiny screen.
All of which is a long way of saying that despite the fact that I don’t own a TV, I consume just as much brain rotting pop culture crap as the rest of you. So there.
get cable. Then, because...schedule, I have...DVR and cables...
